The Washington State Department of Transportation has published a map that details where Washington’s 5,000-plus plug-in vehicles are registered.

This county-by-county breakdown is what we seek to obtain for all 50 states, though information as detailed as this is rarely published.

Olympia, the capital of Washington, is in Thurston County, which lists only 173 plug-in vehicle registrations.

Meanwhile, nearby Seattle (located in King County), the most populated city in Washington, lists an astronomical 3,048 plug-in vehicle registrations.

As the map rather accurately depicts, most plug-in vehicles are registered in urban and suburban areas.  Most of Washington’s outlying rural areas are home to few plug-in vehicles.

We suspect the sames would be true for most states in the US, though the official data simply does not exist to definitively say that’s the case.

great info but not including conversions makes it a bit misleading since the conversion/NEV population is not insignificant here. Remember, the City of Lacey installed public charging stations in 2004 for that very reason which was years before any car that is listed here.

Now, I know you have no choice but to take what you can get but keep in mind, there is roughly another 200-300 conversions and NEVs between Olympia and Seattle

Should divide the # of plug-ins by the population of the counties to get see the which counties have the highest plug-ins per capita.

Yay, we are one of 3k in the county! Actually, by now probably a few hundred more (#s are as of July), plus as the others mentioned – Washingtonians have engaged in all kinds of DYI conversions for years.

What place does Washington among states take in terms of raw # of EVs? How about per-capita?

Regarding charging stations, despite fairly good infrastructure (relatively speaking) there is one glaring hole for us non-Tesla plebeians: a QC station is desperately needed somewhere midway to Snoqualmie pass, to help facilitate day trips in that entire corridor.
