EVINO is another example of Yamaha’s capabilities. Sadly, we don’t see any spec on this lying around. EVINO also has a DC brushless motor and a lithium-ion battery pack.

“EVINO is easy to charge and economical, but also offers a great ride, making it an ideal option as an everyday mode of transportation. The endearing style and light weight body equal easy riding, while the gasoline-free, exhaust-free design is eco-friendly. With its easy to charge removable battery, the EVINO is the epitome of ease and convenience for daily use.”

For our youngest readers, we have Yamaha EKIDS. This light and easy to ride electric motorcycle prepares youngsters for a new era of motoring. This concept shares the modularized “EVINO” electric power unit, probably from the EVINO scooter.

EKIDS is an introductory electric motorcycle for youth riders. A lightweight body and motor control from the compact power unit means easy maneuvering and a soft feel for children that are new to two wheelers. The bike’s portability means that parents and children can enjoy a day of indoor or motorcross activities together on the weekend, without the worry of gasoline or oil stains. In this regard, the EKIDS passes down the joy of riding and advanced Yamaha technology from parent to youth and from motorcycle to electric motorcycle.

And finally, a gift from Yamaha on the 20th anniversary of Yamaha Motor’s PAS electrically power assisted bicycles – the Yamaha YPJ-01.  It’s a minimalist design with a center-mounted 250W motor (pedal-crank direct assist) with externally-attached 22-speed transmission (Front: 2-speed, Rear: 11-speed) and li-ion battery.

“Yamaha’s newest PAS, the YPJ-01, brings new value to conventional electrically power assisted bicycles, building on its long-standing success as the world’s first when it debuted two decades ago. Its minimalist yet stylish design is made possible with the lightest, most compact power unit in its class. Use the YPJ-01’s electric assist function to start or accelerate uphill, or experience its basic performance as a road bicycle that can travel at high speeds. Add to this a new feature that links the bike’s movement to your smartphone and the YPJ-01 delivers an all new genre of electrically assisted bicycle.”

Vow, that Evino is a beauty. I want that!

The funny thing about the e-bicycles, shown by big ICE manufacturers, is that the same are already available from bicycle manufacturers. You can now build a better bike from a kit, installed on your own roadbike, for less.

Andrew

Absolutely true, we’ve built two electric assist bikes in the past. But the fit and finish on the Benz, Yamaha, and iBMW bikes is significantly better. Also we can’t forget that not everyone enjoys a good project. So for them these bikes make great sense. Fancy electrics, without the hassle and unsightly/odd drivetrain integration.

As an owner of a Yamaha Xt225, which has a full tank range of 100-120miles. I rarely go more than 85 miles in a day and would love an all electric runabout. The dreamy part is that I don’t want to pay $12,000 for that privilege. I’m looking at you Zero Motorcycles…. But if anyone can pull off cheap, well engineered bikes it’s yamaha. *fingers crossed this doesn’t cost more than $8500*

I am so looking at the Zero as my next (final) bike. Having just changed the oil on my DL650 I can tell you I am tired of it. While I don’t care about the price my wife is very concerned. Just being able to get to and from work everyday without oil changes, chain replacements, filling up once or twice a week would make the extra price worth it.
This last august we got a Honda FIT EV and quite frankly I will never buy another ICE car again. Smoother and quieter that the equivalent ICE vehicle and my wife hasn’t seen a gas station since August. I would love the same freedom with two wheels.
