Seat Leon Test Mule Spied – Plug-In Hybrid Due In 2020

JUN 14 2018 BY MARK KANE 2

The next-generation Seat Leon was spied for the first time with camouflage. It will be launched in 2019 with a plug-in hybrid version available from 2020.

For the 4th generation of the model, Seat focuses on the new interior and advanced infotainment system that is promised to be even above Tesla, of course with a significantly lower number of physical buttons.

The plug-in hybrid version will be able to drive up to 50 km (31 miles) in all-electric mode, but we are not sure whether that’s NEDC or WLTP. The car is based on the Volkswagen MQB platform.

The test mule in the estate version seems to be overloaded with equipment.

“For some reason, the test mule had camouflage at the front fascia as well as on the D-pillars, around the taillights and on the tailgate just below the rear glass. The vehicle must have had some heavy testing equipment in the trunk and/or rear bench as the wagon was riding significantly lower towards the rear. Those steel wheels covered by hubcaps had some sort of temporary hardware attached in the center, which is usually a sign the vehicle was in the early testing phase.”

Sigh… The lord giveth a comparatively affordable PHEV station wagon, but he taketh away the physical buttons.
Dammit.

Why is it camouflaged ? I mean it’s quite obvious there is nothing exiting worth to copy.
