As we detailed earlier today, Tesla opened its 100th Supercharger.

Naturally, we had to check out the Supercharger ourselves, so we hit the road to capture images of the real deal.

This Supercharger, located in Hamilton Township, New Jersey, features 6 charging points.

The New Jersey Supercharger is Tesla’s 86th in the US (14 more are in operation in Europe).

Word from the site of the 100th Supercharger is that technicians are still there doing some final hookups/checks/tests/etc.  So, don’t plan on charging there just yet.

Site is now fully functional, so go charge up.

Officially, Tesla will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at this 100th Supercharger on Thursday April 24 at 10 AM EST.  We suspect it will be a crowded site come Thursday morning, but for now it’s rather empty.

Beautiful site. I didn’t realize you guys were on the east coast.?

Wow I will go visit with my Rav4 EV even though I can’t plug in there! it is a impressive site.

We are spread out all over the place – like some kind of disease, lol. Tom definitely gets to all the action in and around New Jersey (big props to him btw).

Currently we have east, central and west US covered. Plus Canada (Toronto, ON & Quebec) and two people in Europe. Still lacking in the East/Japan though – wicked hard to find someone there (and who can knows EVs) for some reason.

Currently also in Beijing atm for 2014 Auto China … will get around to doing some live shots/stories on that within the next 24 hours. The 12 hour time difference is tricky to manage.

I wonder what technical things they need to install these? Do they need to be near higher voltage lines? Do they need to be near substations? Do they have batteries in them to store charge in case all of the chargers are used at the same time?

Nice and simple, how it should be. I hope Elon is realizing that at this point there is no need for the fancy charging stations with solar panels etc, at this point this is all that’s needed and it’s probably way cheaper and quicker to install too.

Nah. The solar panels & inverters are cheap. A structure to put them on may be costly though. But in this particular case, it might have solar panels on the roof of that Barnes & Noble.

And it is not so nice & simple . . . they hid the big ugly stuff behind the wooden fence.

Unfortunately, it seems that in the sunniest, hottest locales, which have the solar panel canopies at the Superchargers people who have ICE vehicles tend to part there for the shade. Sometimes you can’t win for losers.

Well the local police and tow-trucks should view such behavior as a revenue stream.

The local govt already squeezes the ICE car owners enough; so I guess they let them go for this. Tesla needs to hire a guard to monitor these stations 24/7. Or do electronic monitoring.

Fining people that willingly break the law is not ‘squeezing’ them.

New Jersey never looked better. Thanks!

“480 Volts”

That’s oddly specific. Most signs I see just say “High Voltage”.

Anyways, there haven’t been a whole lot of SC stations opening lately – only 4 in April. Two in Utah, one in NJ and PA. Judging from Tesla’s SC map, they’ve got about 50 more SC stations to build over the rest of the year. They’ll have to pick up the pace (7-8 a month instead of 4) if they want to hit that target.

I really like the logo on the asphalt. Is this the first site they’ve done that on?

Dunno, but it looks classy. Great branding opportunity, too.

So clean looking. Tesla is just the best

It’s weird you can see the shadow of the guy holding the iphone over the logo.

It was noon, I couldn’t hide from it! 🙂

I don’t think the wooden barracks without rooftop is a good idea, because ppl will throw their trash into it and paper and plastic bags can easily block the ventilation.

@Surprise Cat: If you throw trash over the fence, the hidden Tesla coil behind there hits the litterer with an energy bolt.

I would prefer it zaps the litterbugs… 🙁

I’ll be there today in the afternoon. I am on the road to come come back home, Quebec area, Saint-Georges Beauce

This is pretty cool. I love that they placed the site at a Barnes & Noble, which has bathrooms, coffee, snacks as well as being a nice place to go inside and catch up on some reading. As stated, it’s an attractively done job, with the Tesla logos on the asphalt. Situated near main highways in Central New Jersey, this should be convenient for those who are taking long trips via I-95 or US 1,to the Jersey shores, Washington, DC or the PA Turnpike for west bound travelers. I would assume that one could drive from Boston to Philly with a 30 minute stop here and be fully charged. Maybe you’d have to stop at the CT SC location, I am not sure, but it is another great day for Tesla. If I get over that way I am going to check it out. (Not that I have a Tesla, but I can look longingly at the cars and set up!!!). The more they build out this infrastructure, the more press(positive) they get, the better the brand image and the more intense the desire becomes for that elusive Model E. I think that the way things are falling into place,… Read more »
