Over two years passed since the electric version of Tommykaira ZZ roadster was introduced in 2013.

This beautiful and very quick car (0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds) was recently presented at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The range of just 75 miles (120 km) is nowhere close to the Tesla Roadster, but overall this is much lighter vehicle (850 kg / 1,874 lbs).

The Tommykaira ZZ EV is silent (proof can be found in videos below), but for those who would like to equip the car with sound, GLM – Green Lord Motors (manufacturer of the Tommykaira ZZ EV) offers a solution developed with Roland Corporation.

There will be futuristic (spaceship) or conventional (gasoline engine) sounds available as an option from autumn 2015.

Exact sound will be dependent on driving situation, taking into account things like speed and acceleration.

According to TechnologicVehicles.com, the synthesizer will weigh only 1.1 kg.

Base price of Tommykaira ZZ EV in Japan (with tax) stands at some ¥8,640,000 (nearly $72,000 / over €63,000).

Wow. Looks like a Tesla knockoff, was that the goal?

Bob

Aside from a slightly different look and the new car smell, what does this do better than a used Tesla Roadster?

Hmm, actually built for Japanese conditions, such as the steering wheel on the proper side? The Tesla Roadster, designed in California, also had a water intrusion problem. Somehow I suspect the Japanese have planned on rain and puddles and so forth- remember those?

Never ceases to amaze me how much cagers develop a tunnel vision.

Oh, and the quoted price is also significantly less than importing a Roadster would work out to be.

Bob

Ok, so each is relevant in their home market.

75mi range? lol… not exactly compelling to replace my 7 year old Roadster.
