The Kia Niro EV is finally coming to North America.

The Toronto Electric Vehicle Association (TEVA) recently had an opportunity to test drive the new Kia Niro EV (e-Niro) in Ontario, Canada.

The first drive experience and overview leave us with positive feedback about the e-Niro, which is currently on the shopping list of many EV enthusiasts who seek a more affordable long-range crossover/SUV.

The acceleration is decent, regenerative braking is strong enough to drive mostly using a single-pedal (although it will not bring you to a full stop, as there is a creep mode), and the sound insulation proved to be effective on a windy day. The car is also equipped with most of what you would expect in modern cars in its segment.

Overall, the e-Niro is really attractive BEV and just $2,000 CAD above the base Soul EV with the same battery pack (64 kWh).

Prices of the base versions in Canada:

  • Kia Soul EV Long Range (e-Soul) – $42,595 CAD ($31,786 USD)
  • Kia Niro EV Long Range (e-Niro) – $44,995 CAD ($33,577 USD)

Lower spec Standard battery/motor versions are expected later.
