Formula E Donington Park test - Day two

Formula E Donington Park test – Day two

After another two days of tests at Donington Park, Formula E racers become roughly a second quicker than in the first tests a week earlier.

The holder of the fastest time 1:31.083 is Sebastien Buemi from E.dams-Renault’s team. Lucas di Grassi, the previous leader, is now second.

Buemi, who has now topped three of the four pre-season test sessions, stated:

“Today has been a very good day. This morning we concentrated on race pace working on putting in lots of laps and finding the best balance with the temperatures of the tyres and battery. We continued to focus on race pace in the afternoon, as well as qualifying runs. Credit again has to go to the team for giving me such a good car and the confidence to push and we’ll now see how we can improve for the next one.”

Di Grassi initially commented:

“We are making good progress every test and every time I get in the car. We understand the car a little better but it’s difficult to do a lot of representative work in Donington compared to some of the circuits we will race on throughout the season. The most important thing is to learn about the battery, the motor and tyre pressures but not necessarily fine tuning set-up at this track.”

In total, 10 teams combined did a 840 laps for the fourth day of pre-season tests. According to Formula E, just a few reliability problems occurred.

Now, we are waiting for August 19, on which the final test is scheduled. Again, with free access to fans via the Donington Park website.

This will be great. I’m surprised over how fast they managed to put something this professional out there.

It will be a big show, puting EV’s in a lot of peoples living rooms.

I hope this is really popular, it deserves to be.

It’s going to be in the middle of several cities, even London! It’ll be noticed. The problem would be broadcasting. Who would broadcast the Formula E races, who will take it seriously? Would they give it serious attention and priority like they do for F1?

I’ve seen an advert for it being televised but I forget what channel. So I think it will be seen but it’s obviously not going to be anywhere near as big as F1 for many years. However what I like is they are taking it very seriously and it will show a lot of ignorant people that electric cars are not slow.

I’m surprised at the sound.

I knew it would be good but I had no idea it would be THAT good.

It is almost as if it was engineered on purpose…..or should I say TWEAKED on purpose.

Also of interest that they have multi speed transmissions in these things. I guess if you have lots of money to spend and it gives you more performance and efficiency it is a good thing.

It the motors and trans issions that really interest me. Getting them working well under extremes will something that can be carried across to regular BEVs.

Quote from one driver:

“It’s amazing how much power you can get from a battery”

right on sister!

Oh those gearboxes… ( bites nails )…

The cars must be robust, the shifting with all that torque can take it’s toll. We all
remember what Tesla went through with the Roadster…

One second improvement on just the second
group test- brilliant!

Odd how at pit road speeds they totally have
that RC car sound…only more db.s…

Oh poo

here’s one that is even better.
It is in the rain.
with lots of shifting.
cover your eyes LOL
