Renault Trucks introduced this month a fully electric dumpster truck based on its existing Maxity Electric model.

This is of course one of the greatest applications for EVs because of its noise reduction in close proximity to households (just 63 dB from vehicle and body). Sadly, it is probably still too expensive for operators, but hopefully will be affordable in the near future.

Average range for Maxity Electric is about 100 km (62 miles), but that’s cut in half when dumpster and compaction in use. So, 50 km or about 31 miles. Then 7 hours charging from a 3-phase outlet.

The 42 kWh li-ion battery pack comes from reborn Valence Technology. Renault Trucks, like Tesla, is using a 3-phase induction motor, but it only puts out 47 kW of power and 270 Nm of torque.  Top speed is 70 km/h (electronically limited).

The electric dumpster will be used by Nicollin company in Lyon, France.

Anything to make collecting garbage less of a pollution producing process… I’m all for it. Burning diesel to pick up trash, makes no sense.

Well, at least they are putting decently sized batteries in their Trucks!
