In its Q1 financial filing, we find out sales for all of Renault’s electric cars.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • Q1 2015 Worldwide Registrations: 4,240
  • Renault ZOE – 3,053
  • Renault Kangoo Z.E. – 660
  • Renault Twizy – 517
  • Renault Fluence Z.E. – 10

So, in 3 months, the 4,240-unit tally breaks down to approximately 1,400 electric cars per month worldwide.  That’s less than the amount of LEAFs Nissan sold just in the U.S. in March.

However, Renault is to be applauded as a innovator exploring what works in EV solutions. It’s an innovator with an electric van, battery leasing, and a small car that looks pleasant which can be high power charged using the same 3 phase system as regeneration does. Seems to me to be strange that others don’t use this approach as well (low cost). Looking forward to Renault’s next innovations, hopefully around rapid charging AC/DC. The Zoe seems to be the most pleasant looking EV on the market

Leaf owners regularely comment on how nice my ZOE looks 🙂

Renault offers the Zoe in Germany between May and End of June with 5000€ discount. I guess sales will increase dramatically.

Comparing sales figures to a model in the biggest market where these cars are not even available doesn’t make much sense at all. Comparing them to sales of similar models in the same market is the only comparison that makes sense.
