Renault-Nissan Alliance Sells 200,000th Electric Vehicle
Renault-Nissan Alliance released today an important announcement on reaching the mark of 200,000 cumulative sales of all-electric vehicles in early November.
This number comes almost 4 years after the launch the Nissan LEAF in December 2010, and include six models – Nissan LEAF and new e-NV200 plus four Renault – Kangoo Z.E., Fluence Z.E. (existing also as SM3 Z.E. in South Korea), ZOE and Twizy. We are not sure if the new Venucia e30 is included.
Nissan is responsible for the majority 148,700 EVs, while Renault is at 51,500. We knew this announcement was looming (Renault 50,000 announcement).
At 200,000 units, Renault-Nissan Alliance stated that it holds roughly 58% market share in the EV market worldwide. Moreover, the latest data indicates that two out of every three BEVs are bought from the Renault-Nissan Alliance.
“From January through the first week of November of this year, the Alliance has sold about 66,500 units—an increase of about 20% from the same period last year. The Alliance sells about two out of three electric vehicles worldwide, including Twizy, Renault’s two-seater urban commuter vehicle and the Nissan e-NV200 van on sale in Europe and Japan.”
The combined fleet has driven 4 billion kilometers (2.49 billion miles).
“Together, Renault and Nissan EVs have driven approximately 4 billion zero-emission kilometers – enough to circle the earth 100,000 times. Renault-Nissan’s EVs represent 200 million liters of fuel saved – enough to fill about 80 Olympic-sized swimming pools. Alliance EVs also represent 450 million kg of CO2 that has not been emitted while driving.”

“Renault and Nissan’s electric vehicles are the zero-emission volume leaders – and, most important, they enjoy high satisfaction rates from customers around the world. Based on positive owner feedback and the increasing demand for cars that run on renewable energy, it’s no surprise that EV sales are accelerating – particularly in regions where charging infrastructure is well developed.”
Nissan LEAF, which is approaching 150,000 sales worldwide, is the best-selling EV ever. Largest markets for LEAF are United States with about 67,000 sales and Japan with about 46,500 units. Europe is moving up with 31,000 units. That’s a total of ~ 144,500 on those three markets.
“In the United States, LEAF is on track to be the top electric vehicle in 2014, outselling all other electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Sales so far this year are up 35%, and Nissan LEAF has enjoyed 21 consecutive record sales months and has already shattered its own yearly U.S. sales record with two months to go. In addition to LEAF, Nissan also sells the e-NV200 van, which went on sale in Europe in June and in Japan in October.”
On the Renault side, there is good news too as the French manufacturer controlled 31% of all-electric vehicle sales in Europe last month. ZOE alone held 23% in October.
