Renault Electric Car Sales Increased By 58% In April

Sales of all-electric Renaults increased in April by a strong 58% year-over-year, which is the fastest growth since the summer of 2017.

In total, more than 3,050 ZOE and Kangoo Z.E. were sold, which is around 1.6% of all Renault sales last month (in Europe, where most of the sales occurred, it’s around 2.8%).

Sales of both Renault ZOE and Renault Kangoo Z.E. were very high:

  • Renault ZOE – 2,632 (up 56%)
  • Renault Kangoo Z.E. – 421 (up 69%)

There’s never been a stronger April for Renault EV sales.

For the first four months of 2018, Renault sold over 13,700 electric cars (up 15% year-over-year).

Since 2011, some 140,000 all-electric Renaults (excluding Twizy) are circulating on the roads.

But how much is the Twizy selling anyways?

Negligible numbers. Globally.

Too expensive – but fun to drive.
If I lived in a fairly dry climate, and wanted a “car to just zip to the university or work, it would be cool. Price should probably be 25% lower though.

Good work from Renault. I hope this continues and gives them incentives to further improve their range of e-vehicles.

Why aren’t you selling them in Canada

With the release of the Zoe in 2013, Renault took an early lead. But they let it slip and sat on their hands. Now they’re at 2.8% of sales, which is not that much better than the general market in which plug-in share stands at 2.2% (March 2018). A pity, because there is some pretty clever tech in the Zoe.
