Lots of completely encapsulated wheels. Completely impractical and a nonstarter in the real world so why do it in a concept?

I used to enjoy concept cars years ago because they were about pushing the envelope in aerodynamics, handling or performance. Sure there were always stylistic flourishes but typically the good concepts strayed only as far as adding details that would likely get dropped due to cost or specs that might also get scaled back due to cost.

Now that we have nearly stretched the practical limits of aerodynamics for passenger cars and performance for the quickest cars has reached the precipice of being limited only by gravity and tire surface area it seems like concepts now are just totally impractical, slathered in goofy flourishes like glowing wheels or encapsulated wheels that don’t add anything to the driving experience other than it makes them look different from the other birds of paradise calling out to their mates from the other pedestals at the car show.

What’s the matter, Sid Mead isn’t hiring?
