Porsche 918 Spyder Is Officially Sold Out

In a press release on Porsche’s worldwide sales for November comes this bt of depressing news: Porsche 918 Spyder is sold out.

In addition, mid-November saw the sale of the last of the 918 Spyder hybrid super sports cars. This was a limited run of 918 models. The majority of the cars – 297 – will be shipped from the Zuffenhausen manufactory to buyers in the USA. And in both Germany and China there are around 100 proud new owners of the super sports car.

The million-ish dollar 918 Spyder represents perhaps the pinnacle of plug-in hybrid performance.  It’s a force to be reckoned with:

  • Goes from 0 to 62 MPH in 2.5 seconds (0 to 62 in 6.1 seconds in electric-only mode)
  • Hits 214 MPH
  • Zips from 0 to 120 MPH in 7.2 seconds
  • Puts out 875 HP and 944 pound-feet of torque

So far, Porsche has delivered just over 100 918 Spyders globally, but all of the 918s that will trickle off the line in the coming months have been sold

Production of the 918 Spyder began in Fall of 2013.

The 918 Spyder starts at $847,975.  Deposits of $200,000 were required.

Why aren’t Porshce 918 Spyder sales included in the Monthly Plug-In Sales Scorecard?

    1. Jay Cole says:

We try to keep the US scorecard as “tight” as possible, limited to mass production vehicles intended for the US.

The 918 production started in late 2013, and so far they have only made 150 or so. As mentioned in the article, just 297 will be delivered to the US over 2-3 years.

That being said, there is more and more fringe players, so we will be adjusting the scorecard next year to include “others” so we can account for cars like the 918, P1s, Rimacs, rogue sales of old Fisker Karmas, CODAs and what have you. The sum of the ‘others’ over the past few months are becoming more significant than in the past.

We will also be noting 918 sales (and others specifically) in the wrap-up come January.

      Hope that helps.
