A total of 3,196 plug-in electric cars registered in UK last month, which makes it one of the better results to date.

The year-over-year increase amounted to 23% and plug-in market share hit 1.25%. Not bad taking into consideration the lowered incentives this year.

Mix of new plug-in registered:

  • 1,006 BEVs (+11%)
  • 2,190 PHEVs/EREVs (+30%)

All-electric car sales in UK are in minority, standing at just 27% after six months (5,267 to 13,985).

Overall market grew by nearly 28% to 19,252 YTD with average market share of about 1.3%.

So that’ll be 1000 or so outlanders plus another 1000 or so fast charge enabled bev’s. I wonder who all those people are going to buy their electricity from? If only their was an electricity supplier who hand their own fast charge network that was free to use for its customers, oh hang on we’re in the uk so there is!

I wish there was an electricity company in Australia that could offer they same but unfortunately they require a roi of 3 years, are completely risk averse and are incapable of understanding that you can make a small loss on a small part of your business to make a massive profit somewhere else.

ecotricity also give annual 40 gbp discount to customers who own an EV

It is great to see the “Market Share” above 1% for all of this year so far. Keep up the good work.
Next year, see if we can keep it above 2% or more.

With Thursday’s announcement by Ecotricity that they are going to start charging non-Ecotricity customers £5 per 20 minute connection to their rapid charging network, I can see a stampede of Outlander drivers signing up to Ecotricity… As an owner of 3 EVs, I might even do it myself!

Do it! And make sure you tell you current supplier why. I am really envious of the electric highway in the uk. I live in Melbourne, Australia and we have one public fast charger.
