Plug-in electric car registrations in the UK grew by 225% year-over-year in April to 1,490.

This year, the UK already added slightly over 10,000 plug-ins, with the total number hitting 30,000 since January 2011.

Rate of growth for all-electric cars is good, but nothing can compare to the skyrocketing of plug-in hybrids.

Most of the sales are plug-in hybrids (975 registrations out of 1,490 in April and nearly 7,000 YTD).

Overall, market share for BEVs and PHEVs oscillates around 1% with 1.29% peak in December 2014, while in April it stands at 0.80%.

Europe (EU+EFTA) as a whole is a fraction above 1% so far this year. It’s a decent start, but there is a lot more to come.

It’s great to see that the UK is not below average, it’s a large market and an important one too.
