While the EV category had contenders from three different countries, plug-in hybrids are dominated by South Korean brands. The Prius is the only exception. With a 5.5 rating, it costs £31,695 and offers a range of 709 mi. It also is one of the most efficient PHEVs in the market, with a 280 Wh/mi energy efficiency. Select Car Leasing chose to put it ahead of the Niro and the Optima despite the lower 5.5 grade, but we think it makes much more sense that the rating rules the ranking.
