Naturally, the most powerful plug-in money can buy is the multi-million-dollar Koenigsegg Regera. It debuted in 2016, and though it will be limited to just 80 examples, the company promises it will be the "most powerful and fastest accelerating production car ever." And with 1,500 horsepower and 1,475 pound-feet of torque on tap, how could you argue?

Power comes courtesy of a biturbocharged 5.0-liter V8 that itself produces a hefty 1,100 horsepower, combined with three YASA electric motors – each powered by a 4.5 kilowatt-hour, 800-volt liquid cooled battery pack developed by Rimac. With a kinetic energy recovery system also equipped, the Regera is able to regenerate up to 150 kilowatts of power to recharge the battery. It’s one impressive plug-in, to say the least.
