Peugeot and Micro Introduces e-Kick Electrically Assisted Scooter

Peugeot and Micro have presented an electrically assisted scooter – the e-Kick as the solution for “the “last-mile”” of any journey.

With range of up to 12 kms (7.5 milem),  and a top speed of 25 km/h (15.5 mph) it could be usable gadget.

Thanks to lithium-ion battery on board, the total weight is just 8.5 kg/19lbs.

The e-Kick supplements the premiere of the new Peugeot 3008 SUV, of which the vehicle’s boot can easily store the  e-Kick.

Peugeot intends to sell the e-Kick later this year (beginning in Q4) together with its bicycles and two and three wheel scooters.

“PEUGEOT and MICRO share a common vision of future urban mobility solutions and combined their expertise to design the e-Kick. The e-Kick electrically assisted scooter offers an active, natural, and flexible user experience, created to optimise intra-city journeys by adapting to any circumstances and desire.

Compact, and with a contained weight of only 8.5 kg, the e-Kick includes multiple major innovations:

  • A “Motion Control” electric assistance system developed by MICRO: The Lithium Ion battery is built in to the ultra-thin platform with the motor integrated directly into the rear wheel. The e-Kick optimises the level of electric assistance based on user movements and provides a range of 12 km. It allows for speeds of up to 25 km/h, and is equipped with a foot-brake that is accompanied by a regenerative engine braking system that recharges the battery.
  • An innovative handlebar designed by Peugeot Design Lab: The e-Kick’s mechanisms allow it to be easily folded in a few seconds and to be rolled along on its front wheel so that the user doesn’t have to carry it.

Unveiled at the launch of the new PEUGEOT 3008 SUV on 23 May, the e-Kick is designed for customers who are looking for mobility solutions that go hand in hand with their vehicle. A “dockstation” allows the user to store the e-Kick in the boot of the new PEUGEOT 3008 SUV, and it also recharges the battery while the vehicle is driving. Outside of the car, the scooter can also be recharged in about an hour.

“e-Kick is a truly multi-modal designed not just to be a mobility solution in itself but also to link all the other solutions together. The two handles used in driving mode fold up into a single handle that allows the scooter to roll from on one wheel, making it effortless to hop from your home to your car to a train to your work………. ” explains Cathal Loughnane, Peugeot Design Lab Manager.”

One has to be pretty lazy to use that. In addition, it will run into the same problems as the Segway -banned on most city sidewalks.

Lots of FUD here. Lets deal with it.

Most cities in fact, do not ban Segways. They’re typically classed as pedestrians and sidewalks are the environment they were designed for. Users can pivot in place, stop abruptly, just like people on foot, so they don’t have any traditional design disadvantages integrating with other pedestrian traffic, like bicycles or other tandem-wheeled mobility devices.

As for the lazy comment, most people don’t burn many calories sitting in a vehicle. When you sit in a car, you’re telling your body to slow down its metabolism– which makes you fat and lazy.

Standing on a Segway is more like horseback riding or downhill skiing, in terms of calorie expenditure and using large muscle groups in your legs and abdomen, as you actively control it.

It has been shown that simple standing burns more calories and is healthier than sitting, thus standing desks.

In the UK you can only use something like this on private land (legally).

FYI, last year Segway was acquired by Ninebot, the Chinese rival that made Segway clones and which Segway accused of infringing on its patents to make their Segway copies.

You could always just get one of the Razor ones currently available which I imagine are a lot less as well. Just saying 😀

How about a story on electric skateboards.

Might as well feature other useless devices. The tiny tires on these “last mile” scooters and boards suck in actual LA Traffic. Try using them for just a mile in a city. You’ll want something with at least 10 inch and larger tires to handle things like POT HOLES and road construction.

Cool. I was referring to those mostly as recreation, not as modes of transport.

I’ve used them for both, and they can be a lot of fun.

A Segway and a Bladez tandem wheel + public transportation were my only transport when I lived in Seattle for about a year and a half. (Left the convertible BMW Z3 in San Diego). When you *have* to use those vehicles as your “last mile” you learn a lot that you wouldn’t otherwise.

Those were my first EVs. Eventually worked my way up to a Model S. I still ride the scooters though, even recently bought a new very well designed and capable Chinese electric kick scooter. Also have several electric bikes for longer trips.

I like the looks of the Peugeot / Micro e-Kick featured in the OP, but Anon is right, the small wheels will give a very limited operating envelope (I have one very similar, almost never use it).

When used in conjunction with light rail and bus, a small lightweight scooter can be a viable transportation option. They are also a lot of fun on the right paved park trails.

Please do a review on the new, self-balancing electric unicycles. Much more practical on less than perfect roads than either electric scooters or skateboards.

If you are serious, i could write a review of my Zboard San Fransisco Special electric skateboard. Ive been riding it for a few years now and bring it to all the EV events i attend. It even got used as a camera trolley at the Model 3 launch. Range is supposed to be 18 miles and top speed is 20 mph. I’ve personally driven it 13 miles on one charge (i’m over the recommended weight limit). It was well worth the money spent and its performance is better than many electric bicycles and a hell of a lot more fun.

Cool. Yes I am, though usually I am a joker. I think it would be neat to see how they are being put to use and for fun. Thinking about getting a few for the nieces and nephews.
