Perhaps This Is Why Norwegians Buy Tesla Model S – Video

There are several perks to owning electric cars in most countries around the globe.

For example, in Norway, electric car ownership grants access to bus lanes.  These lanes are typically free-flowing even when traffic in other lanes is backed up.

Perhaps it’s for this reason (access to bus lanes) that Norwegians buy the Tesla Model S (or any other pure electric car).

One among many many reasons to buy a Tesla or an EV.

According to this Freakonomics podcast ( there are a lot of perks in Norway for buying an EV:

• You can drive in the bus lane
• Free public parking
• Free access to toll roads
• No registration fees
• No sales tax
• Income tax deduction if you drive for a living

I have also heard Norwegian drivers do not get VAT charged onto the car if they buy electric, and that is a considerable source of savings right there.

Norwegian drivers are spoiled when it comes to EV’s.

National advantages.
– Cleaner air.
– Local power source is wind.
– More demand for local power = more local jobs.

But obviously don’t work any more, if too many people think the same and buy an EV.

But too many people buying gasoline powered cars is even worse. Look at China.

Local power source is wind? 😛

He probably meant “water” but mistyped 🙂

Besides that all their wealth relies on Oil – not water and ingenuity.

Almost like being a ‘Stonecutter’.

Err, the US has HOV/HOT lanes… and lots of Model S drivers too 🙂

It is a state by state thing. California does give permission to drive in the Carpool lanes to EVs and PHEVs. And it REALLY is a huge benefit.

I’m kinda shocked that people would buy non plug-in cars these days. Even if you are skeptical of plug-ins, getting a PHEV for the carpool lane sticker seems like a non brainer.

That is why so many Prius Plugins are sold in California…

That is the kind of PHEV that we don’t want to encourage…

And then they park in their “EV” in the EV charging spots at the mall without plugging in. They think “EV charging station” means “my private parking spot for the day”. Grrr.
