In addition to the previous news of 4,051 LEAFs sold in UK in 2014 (up from 1,812 in 2013), we found out that almost one-third comes from fleets.

Exactly 1,211 LEAFs were registered by fleets, which seems like a lot to us:

“Meanwhile, a renewed focus on electric vehicles strengthened Nissan’s position as market leader. During 2014, the brand’s dedicated EV fleet specialists clocked up a 56% increase in sales, with 1,211 all-electric Nissan LEAFs registered by fleet customers.”

SMMT data indicates that 63,358 Nissan brand cars were registered by fleets in 2014, which would mean that LEAF’s share in this category is almost 2%.

That seems like a little to me since EV’s are a forced change in the UK rather than one build on willingness and awareness.

I hope that a lot of UK citizens get to drive them so that their own next car might be an EV for all the right reasons. 🙂

The use of ev’s in fleets makes a great deal of sense to me. Fleet vehicles drive more miles and ev’s only get more efficient the more they are driving, the savings over gas and regular maintenance. Also congestion pricing, and other incentives would suggest changeover of fleets to ev’s to be a logical choice. No big surprise.
