All-electric Nissan e-NV200 Proves it’s Top Banana

London’s fruit delivery firm – Fruit 4 London – is the latest group to participate in Nissan’s ‘£2 Challenge’.

After testing it on a busy day of deliveries across the capital, Fruit 4 London found out that £2 worth of electricity would be enough for up to two days of driving.

“Starting with a full load at New Spitalfields Market in the East End, company director Laszlo Mulato drove a total of 36.6 miles and made 15 deliveries before returning to depot with 50 percent of the vehicle’s original charge remaining.

Based on that performance, the company could expect to make 3,900 deliveries a year, covering almost 10,000 miles for a total electricity bill of just £260.”

Energy savings of course are on top of the large congestion charge exemption, saving hundreds of pounds annually.

Laszlo Mulato, Director of Fruit 4 London, stated:

“This challenge really opened our eyes to the benefits of moving towards an electric fleet and the e-NV200 in particular.”

“It’s shown us just how much we could save by making the transition and, as a small business, it’s hard to argue with figures like that.”

“We were also really impressed to see first hand how the e-NV200 could help us win new business, with many of our biggest clients and potential customers expressing a preference to work with green-minded suppliers.”

Nissan argues that additional savings of £1,200 will come from lower maintenance bills (as compared to a conventional diesel van) over four years.

I saw an ICE NV-200 the other day. Was surprised how big it is – bigger than the Ford Transit and certainly bigger than the Kangoo.

If production quality and volume hold up, the eNV-200 should be a hit.

They should offer it with a larger battery option though. Getting it over 100 miles EPA rated would make it a much safer purchase for businesses that have some range anxiety.

Hopefully these companies also put in work-place charging for employees.

This is a great market for Nissan because businesses are typically used to evaluating total cost of ownership. This van has the potential to really lower operating costs for just a small upfront charge.

Wish nissan would release a passenger version of this.

The US ICE version is a bit bigger then the E-NV200, it is stretched about a half foot. Agree on boosting the range, plenty of room for more batteries.

Surprised they didn’t mention the benefit of driving right up and into the market to collect the days load, without soiling the air.

So to recharge the NV200 back to a full charge after 36 miles, I’m assuming takes around 12 kwh? So am I correct in assuming London Electricity is 8 1/3 pence per kwh?
