The New Citroen 2CV Van Is The Perfect Match For Trendy Baristas
The original Fourgonette helped small businesses carry goods on the cheap. The new one screams “specialty coffee.”

Hot on the heels of the new Citroën 2CV Concept launch, the French automaker that’s now part of the Stellantis group has taken the wraps off another lovable electric concept car at the Paris Motor Show.
This is the Citroën 2CV Fourgonette Concept, a modern reinterpretation of the original working man’s van from the early 1950s. Just like its forefather, the new electric van is pretty much identical to the passenger version from the front bumper to the B pillar.
What follows is quite simply a box that lives where the rear passenger compartment would usually be found on a regular car. It’s simple, it’s cute, and it’s probably going to attract plenty of fashionable businesses simply because it looks cool.
It all hinges on whether Citroën decides to put it into production or not. The rebooted 2CV will get a production version in 2028, with a low starting price of around €15,000. The new 2CV Fourgonette’s fate, however, is not as clear-cut. Citroën said that the funky van is “a passion project” for its designers and that it “does not preview a future production model in the short term.”

That last part might hold the key to the small EV’s future, though. If the regular 2CV has decent success, the automaker may make the case for a commercial version. It’s all about money, after all, but thanks to the European Union’s new E-Car rules, we might see a wave of cheap, no-frills EVs hit the road by the end of the decade.
“The 2CV Fourgonnette was more than just a work tool. It was part of everyday life. Simple, ingenious and accessible, it above all possessed something few commercial vehicles have: a soul,” said Xavier Chardon, CEO of Citroën and DS Automobiles. “That is the spirit we are bringing back to life today. Because being useful should never mean being ordinary.”
The French marque didn’t give out specific numbers on the 2CV’s performance and range, but due to its diminutive size, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a sub-150-mile number. That’s perfectly adequate for urban trips and, in the case of the 2CV Fourgonette, for long stays at trade shows or in business center parking lots.
During its long and storied history, Citroën has had plenty of wacky cars in its portfolio, so an electric city van would fit just in. Especially one that’s as cool as this one.
