Rivian’s Big R2 Bet Is Already Paying Off
Rivian set a record quarter for deliveries, thanks largely to the R2.
Rivian on Friday announced its best sales quarter ever as deliveries of the R2 ramp up.
The company said it produced 19,751 vehicles and delivered 19,248 vehicles in the three-month period ending September 30. That represents a 45% jump over Rivian's delivery figures in the third quarter of last year, when it reported selling 13,201 vehicles.
While Rivian doesn't break out sales figures between its four-model lineup, most of the gains likely come from the R2, which kicked off customer deliveries in June. When Rivian set its 2026 delivery guidance of 62,000-67,000 vehicles, its CFO said the gains over the previous year's numbers of some 42,000 vehicles would come from the the R2, Rivian's first vehicle with the potential for mass-market success.
Since then, the company has raised its delivery target to 65,000-70,000 units for the year. On Friday, Rivian said it was on track to hit that.
