The similarities are truly astonishing.

Volkswagen Group is doing whatever possible to decrease the development costs of electric cars not only by introducing a general MEB platform for BEVs, but literally by introducing the same cars with minimal changes under various brands.

The first example of the strategy is the Volkswagen ID.3 and its upcoming cousin SEAT el-Born concept. Those two compact hatchbacks are nearly identical, as changes seem to concern only design elements related to the style of the brand.

Take a look at the nifty sliding image below to see the similarities.

The Volkswagen ID.3 will enter production this year with first deliveries expected in mid-2020 and SEAT el-Born's production version will be probably available shortly after, as the 2nd brand with MEB-base EV on the market. Both will start with a mid-range 58 kWh battery, good for 420 km (261 miles) of WLTP range.

The ID.3 is still presented only in camouflage, but thanks to the SEAT el-Born, we get an important look of the interior, which should be similar in the ID.3.
