Top Gear pits the "world's fast-selling" electric car — the Tesla Model 3 — against the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio in this recent quarter-mile showcase. While this isn't necessarily the most "on par" matchup, we've seen many stranger competitions, as you can see in the related videos below.

At any rate, these are two hot and sporty passenger vehicles. Of course, one is an all-electric premium midsize sedan and the other is a traditional gas-powered luxury compact crossover. Nonetheless, they do have more in common than one might think.

Both the Model 3 and Stelvio start around $40K and come with a nice assortment of standard features. These two cars ride on similar wheelbases and are close to equals in terms of width. However, the Stelvio sits about 9 inches taller and weighs more.

While the Tesla offers more front legroom, the two vehicles' other interior dimensions are very similar. Interestingly, though the Stelvio is a crossover, it doesn't offer much more cargo volume than the Model 3.

Both cars provide engaging handling and notable acceleration, but how do they stack up at the strip? Check out the video and let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
