It's available only when placing an order for a new Model 3, and there is no option to retrofit existing Model 3 with the tow hitch at Tesla service.
"High strength steel tow bar with a removable adapter. Capable of towing up to 910 kgs."
"Tow Hitch cannot be installed after delivery"
Even with a full load, the Model 3 and trailer will stay below 3,500 kg (7,716 lbs) for the base and most common B driving license for cars.
The price depends on the country, but in general, it's slightly above €1,000. Here are a few examples:
- Germany: €1,060
- France €1,070
- Netherlands: €1,080
- Norway: 8,300 NOK
- Switzerland: 1,080 CHF
- UK: £970
Towing option for the Model 3 looks reasonable compared to other models:
- Nissan e-NV200: 430 kg
- Jaguar I-PACE: 750 kg
- Tesla Model 3: 910 kg
- Kia Niro PHEV: 1,300 kg
- Audi e-tron: 1,800 kg
- Mercedes-Benz EQC: 1,800 kg
- Tesla Model X: 2,250 kg
The energy consumption increase when towing highly depends on the trailer (its size, aerodynamics and weight) and in general, can more than double consumption, which means a significant range decrease.
