Irizar received an order for 15 all-electric Irizar ie buses, with the appearance of a tram, for the Swiss city of Schaffhausen.
The contract includes 7 Irizar ie 12-meter long and 8 Irizar ie 18-meter long buses, as well as 12 DC fast charging stations (600 kW each) and 16 in-depot chargers.
The idea is to charge the buses many times during the shift, using electricity generated in the Rhine River and then fully charge the batteries in the depot for another day. This way, the battery packs in the buses can be smaller, which translates to the ability to take more passengers.
If the first phase of the project turns out to be successful, there is an option for a second phase (in 2022-2027), which will increase the number of buses to 47, including 20 chargers and 51 in-depot chargers.
Hector Olabegogeaskoetxea, Manager Director of Irizar e-mobility said:
"This is a unique project in Switzerland and in Europe where 12 fast charging points of 600 kW will be installed in one of the main avenues of the city and charging will be done using green energy generated by the river Rhine as it passes through Schaffhausen. Once more the Irizar Group is showing its capacity to provide turnkey solutions by supplying buses and charging stations that meet specific requirements of a city."
