SsangYong hints that its first all-electric car is to be a proper 4x4 for off-road driving.
SsangYong e-SIV EV concept
The South Korean company unveiled a concept model e-SIV EV in Geneva and now it's expected that in 2020 it will introduce electric versions of the next-generation Korando (on top of the conventional version).
The e-SIV EV concept was equipped with a 61.5 kWh battery and a 140 kW electric motor, which is not that much for a true off-road vehicle, but there are still more than two years to figure out how to put inside more kWhs.
"SsangYong UK boss, Nick Laird told Autocar that the EV will be “a huge step forward, even over the current model". He said: "it sticks to the company’s roots and DNA of trying to be a proper SUV and crossover brand".
A little surprising is that Laird is also interested in diesel-electric hybrid powertrains instead of a petrol-electric hybrid
“I do hope that the diesel market recovers; I think it deserves to.”
