March turned out to be the best month for plug-in electric car sales in Europe ever!

In total, some 40,936 plug-ins were sold, which is 41% more than one year ago at 2.2% market share.

After the first quarter, already more than 87,000 plug-ins were sold (up 37% year-over-year) in Europe and it seems that the full year results will be amazing.

The main reason behind the fast growth of the market is the new Nissan LEAF, which in its first full month set a record of 6,053 sales (the number of registrations are always lower than the manufacturer sales).

Beside the single month of December 2015, when Mitsubishi delivered 6,485 Outlander PHEV because of rush for ending incentives in the Netherlands, never before have sales of one particular model been higher.

Nissan is now second best selling plug-in model in Europe for the year.

41,000 plug-ins in March is also a result of Renault ZOE record sales of 4,248. Other models that achieved strong sales - 2,300 BMW i3 (best in 18 months), 2,791 Tesla Model S (best in 27 months), 2,541 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV (best in two years), 1,501 Volkswagen Passat GTE (best in 15 months). More than on thousand additional plug-in sales come from the all-new Kia Niro PHEV.
