Breakdown on the sales by category:

  • BEVs: 77,000 (up 95.8%)
  • PHEVs: 14,000 (up 194%)
After the first 10 months, 490,000 plug-ins were sold (up 45.4%), with the vast majority (402,000) bring all-electric.

Looking at the numbers even deeper, EV Sales Blog reports that most of the NEV sales in China are cars - roughly 66,500.

While BYD remains one of the leaders with 11,800 sales in October, and 80,000 YTD, there are other contenders gaining ground fast.

BAIC has delivered a massive 11,315 copies of  its EC-Series model, and 49,191 so far this year - which means we can say, with 100% certainty, that it will be best selling model of 2017 in China... and for the enitre world.

We should note that CAAM reports sales of all kinds of road legal vehicles with a plug-in powertrain (for example buses), but a large majority is still passenger light vehicles…not that an all-electric bus should be counted/considered less than a passenger EV (it should probably be counted as more valuable).

China Association of Automobile Manufacturers states:

In October, the production and sales of new energy vehicles reached 92 thousand units and 91 thousand units respectively, increasing 85.9% and 106.7% year on year. To be specific, the production and sales of BEV both reached 77 thousand units, increasing 76.3% and 95.8% year on year; and such figures for PHEV were both 14 thousand units, increasing 163.6% and 194% year on year.

For the first ten months, the production and sales of new energy vehicles reached 517 thousand units and 490 thousand units respectively, increasing 45.7% and 45.4% year on year. To be specific, the production and sales of BEV reached 427 thousand units and 402 thousand units, increasing 54.7% and 55.9% year on year; and such figures for PHEV were 90 thousand units and 88 thousand units, increasing 14% and 11.2% year on year.
