Plug-in electric car registrations in France – December 2017

Plug-in electric car sales in France for the very first time exceeded 40,000 last year, though all-electric car sales grew slowly.

In total, nearly 43,000 plug-ins were registered, which is 23% more than one year ago.

  • Passenger BEVs: 24,910 registrations (up 15%)
  • Passenger PHEVs: 10,803 registrations (up 67%)
  • BMW i3 REx (counted separately to BEV/PHEV in France): 1,073 registrations (up 11%)
  • Light commercial BEVs: 6,011 registrations (up 8%)
While France remains one of the largest plug-in markets in Europe, growth is below expectations.

As always, the best selling models in France were:

  • Renault ZOE: 15,245 (up 34%) and 61% of all passenger BEVs + 675 ZOE registered as light commercial vehicles
  • Renault Kangoo Z.E.: 2,546
  • Nissan LEAF: 2,381 (down 38%)
  • Mercedes GLC350e: 2,112
  • BMW i3: 1,954 (including 1,073 REx)
No other model seemed to cross the level of 1,000 registrations for the year. Tesla delivered 850 Model S and 538 Model X.
