The 680-hp Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo shames plenty of bona fide sports cars.

Station wagons are boring appliances for dull, practical people. And most plug-in hybrids are best only for efficiency freaks who want to drive under the speed limit at all times. Right?

Wrong. So very, very wrong.

If any car is going to shatter these horrifically misguided preconceptions, it’s the 2018 Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo. Its plug-in hybrid powertrain develops a total of 680 horsepower and 682 pound-feet of torque. It will accelerate to 60 miles per hour in 3.2 and rush through the quarter-mile in 11.6 seconds. And with enough open road, it can manage a top speed of 192 mph.

Past the raw numbers, the new Porsche plug-in can also cover 50km/31 miles*(well, on the Euro/NEDC system anyway,  think ~22 miles/35 km real-world/EPA estimated) and hit 87 mph using only electric propulsion...and depending on the kind of connection can be recharged in 2.4 to 6 hours.
