According to the official data from China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, Chinese plug-in vehicle sales increased by 55% in  July (year-over-year) to 56,000 deliveries, while at the same time production rose to 59,000 vehicles (up nearly 53%).

Of those deliveries, some 44,700 were via the sale of plug-in passenger vehicles, one of the best results ever (and up 37% - data compiled by EV Sales Blog).

One of the biggest players in China (as always) was BYD with a record 11,200+ plug-in car sales in July.

The new BYD Song (PHEV and BEV together) alone exceeded 6,600 deliveries.

Other large offerings in China for July was the BAIC EC-Series with 4,068 sales, and the tiny Zhidou D2 EV  with 3,796 deliveries.

Of July's numbers, Chinese manufacturers represent the vast majority -  93% of the pie, while 7% are (naturally) foreign brands - of those 4% market share belonged to Tesla, and 2% to BMW.

The Buick Velite 5 (Chevrolet Volt) noted a strong 382 sales last month in China (compared to 1,518 in U.S.).

So far this year, the plug-in vehicle market in China stands at:

  • Sales: 251,000 (up 26.2% year-over-year)
  • Production: 272,000 (up 21.5% year-over-year)
All-electric cars holds around 80% of the market.

"In July, the production and sales of new energy vehicles reached 59 thousand units and 56 thousand units respectively, increasing 52.6% and 55.2% year on year. To be specific, the production and sales of BEV reached 46 thousand units and 45 thousand units, increasing 69.6% and 70.2% year on year; and such figures for PHEV were both 12 thousand units, increasing 10.0% and 16.3% year on year."

"For the first seven months, the production and sales of new energy vehicles reached 272 thousand units and 251 thousand units respectively, increasing 26.2% and 21.5% year on year. To be specific, the production and sales of BEV reached 223 thousand units and 204 thousand units, increasing 37.8% and 33.6% year on year; and such figures for PHEV were 49 thousand units and 47 thousand units, decreasing 8.8% and 12.8% year on year."
