Volvo introduced an entry level version of its first diesel plug-in hybrid V60 D6 Twin Engine, which has been available throughout Europe since 2013.  (We believe we are still allowed to print the word "diesel", but are not 100% sure)

The new version -  the V60 D5 Twin Engine in the UK starts at £38,105 (or around $51,000), which is some £12,070 (24%) cheaper than the D6 (£50,175 or $67,250).  However, the one-step lower trim level (SE Nav compared to SE Lux Nav) does prevent a perfectly direct comparison.

Also interesting is that a five-cylinder diesel engine (with electric motor) is the same in both the D5 and D6 versions, only a de-tuned version in the D5's case from 220bhp to 163bhp.

The battery pack is unchanged at 11.2 kWh, so range the NEDC range rating of up to 32 miles/52 km (or about 23 miles/37 km "real world"/EPA equivalent77) would be unaffected.
