Plug-in electric car sales are taking off, and this International Energy Agency's sales demographic chart shows the progress being made by both all-electric (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid (PHEVs) vehicles.

The first million plug-ins sold mark was crossed in 2015 (and ended the year at some 1.15 million cumulative).

IEA's graph interestingly breaks down sales by countries with the largest share - the U.S. at 400,000 was market leader at the end of 2015, but China is growing fast and will pass the US soon.

The only question now is whether or not this year we will celebrate 2 million plug-ins on the roads, or if we will need a few more months in early 2017 to reach the mark.
