Maserati has confirmed that its two-seat Alfieri concept in production bound.
Starting in 2019, the Alfieri will enter production as a twin-trub V6 spotscar, but following that, in 2020, a pure electric version will launch.
"Rumours of the electric sports car surfaced in the summer, but Maserati has now confirmed the pure-electric model as the second powertrain of the new Alfieri, to be launched a year after the twin-turbo petrol V6-engined sportscar makes its debut in 2019."
Autocar says that emissions regulations will force Maserati to ditch the concepts original V8 powertrain in favor of a twin-turbo V6 and that those same regulations have convinced the automaker to offer a pure electric version too.
It's believed that Alfieri will ride on an all-new platform that's designed for electric from the get-go. This means that several other BEV Maserati could be coming in the future and that all of these BEVs will ride on this platform, or a modified version of this platform.
