A slight decrease in Renault's electric car sales in October (by 7.5% to 2,070) shows how important the major battery upgrade for the ZOE is to the French automaker.

Clearly, consumers are hesitant to the buy the older 22 kWh versions ahead of the new 41 kWh ZOE ZE 40's arrival in November - likely because the new model (with 300 kn/186 miles of real world range) is only a couple thousand Euros more than the old standard.

Renault all-electric model breakdown for September:

  • Renault ZOE – 1,503 (down 27%) and ≈17,500 YTD
  • Renault Kangoo Z.E. – 567 (up 50%) and ≈3,500 YTD
  • Renault Twizy – 158 (down 45%) and ≈1,900 YTD
The total all-electric sales for the year at Renault now stand at just over 21,350 (23,250 incl. Twizy), compared to 17,000 year ago (19,000);  but really even this month numbers are well in the past, as all eyes are now on how the new 41 kWh ZOE will be received in Europe.
