A next-generation Tesla Roadster has been hinted at by CEO Elon Musk on several occasions, so we know it's coming, but nobody is quite sure when.

Omni Auto created this render of the next-gen Roadster and claims Tesla will launch the car in 2019.

Omni Auto states:

"The new Tesla Roadster will be launched in 2019 and will be "a little 'different, a bit' faster and a bit 'bigger'. From these words of Peter Bardenfleth-Hansen, responsible for the Nordic countries of the American brand, we tried to imagine the style of the second-generation electric spider, much more similar to the present and the future Model S Model 3 that the old Roadster derivation Lotus Elise."

Musk has promised us (via Twitter) that the next-generation Roadster will have performance that's unmatched by any Tesla available today. Musk calls the next-gen Roadster "Maximum Plaid," a reference to Spaceballs.

If the next-gen Roadster is to outperform the current Teslas out there today, then performance figures would have to be at least 2.5 seconds for 0 to 60 MPH, but we're thinking the target would actually be a sub 2-second run. Go big or go home...

Aside from the non-current style Tesla front end, this rendered next-gen Roadster is actually quite pleasing to the eye, don't you think?
