Joyride in 918 Spyder
Autocar is reporting that all of the Porsche 918 Spyders sold in the U.S. are being recalled due to a seatbelt-related issue.
The problem, it seems, is that "incorrect fixing screws" may have been used for the seatbelt mounts and belt reels.
"The issue has arisen due to a mistake in the original parts catalogue for the 918 Spyder. It accidentally showed the screw that secures each seatbelt mount in the place where the screw for the belt reel mount should go, and vice versa."
"The screws are not the same and can only be used once, so Porsche says the mistake in the catalogue could mean technicians working on the car might have put the screws in the wrong place. If that is the case on recalled models, Porsche will replace the screws."
If incorrect screws were used, then the integrity of the seat belt system could be in jeopardy. No incidents have been reported in connection to this recall.
Porsche will inspect all 918 Spyder and replace the screws if necessary free of charge.
Only 918 Porsche Spyders were sold worldwide, and according to our sales data (which we religiously log each month), some 305 have been registered in the US and 27 in Canada.
The Porsche 918 Spyder has now been the subject of multiple recalls linked to various components such as rear axle control arms, chassis parts and a carbon fiber component that could damage a wiring harness.
