BYD Motors Electric Buses
Nikkei reports that electric bus colossus BYD intends to build anothere EV bus (and other 'special' electric vehicles) plant in China, once again underlining the brands dominance in the country.
The expected investment will reach ~4 billion yuan ($614 million).
"The company announced the plans Monday for the plant in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province. It will be a key facility for electric vehicles, along with factories in Shaanxi Province's Xian, Hunan Province's Changsha, and Shenzhen in Guangdong Province, where BYD is headquartered."
How great the potential output could be, is best illustrated by the announced capacity of 5,000 electric buses annually and 5,000 "special-purpose vehicles for construction and other applications".
To date, BYD has separately reported over 6,000 buses deliveries for revenue services around the world, so even for BYD this new plant would be big leap foward in production. We imagine that fully maximizing output will still take some time.
"The new plant will have an annual capacity of 5,000 electric buses, in addition to 5,000 special-purpose vehicles for construction and other applications. Such larger electric vehicles carry higher profit margins than electric passenger cars. BYD expects the new facility to generate annual sales of 15 billion yuan."
