Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV
Mitsubishi UK is confident it will maintain the momentum of Outlander PHEV sales, despite the fact that the Plug-in Car Grant was reduced from £5,000 to £2,500 for Category 2 on March 1st.
The one good thing about the expiry is that everyone who did place order before the end of February, and will receive the car over the next several months, will still will qualify for full £5,000. In other words, change should be seamless.
Category 1 – cars with zero emission range of 70 miles or more and CO2 emission below 50 g/km. (£4,500, no price cap)
Category 2 – cars with zero emission range 10-69 miles and CO2 emission below 50 g/km (£2,500, £60,000 price cap)
Category 3 – cars with zero emission range 20 or more miles and CO2 emission 50-75 g/km (£2,500, £60,000 price cap)One way or another the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will likely remain the top selling plug-in car in UK, it will just be getting a little less assistance in that mission.
Mitsubishi UK boss Lance Bradley said:
“We never expected the grant to last forever, we just asked for a phased removal, and while this change has come quicker than we hoped, we expect to maintain momentum. From day one we were bold with pricing, and we plan to stay that way.
“Sure, the Outlander will cost more, but the people who were shrewd about the incentive rushed to buy one; I suspect everyone else thinking about it will investigate further and see there is still a substantial incentive, and that the car has enough advantages to pay back the extra initial cost.”
