Way back in the day (more than 2 years ago) Chrysler-Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne stated:

“I hope you don’t buy it, because every time I sell one, it costs me $14,000.”

That comment was in regards to how much money Fiat loses on each 500e sold.

Recently, Autoline, via its impeccable sources, reaffirmed how much of a money loser the 500e is for Fiat.

At 3 minutes and 41 seconds in the video, you'll hear Autoline say that for every 500e sold, Fiat would need to sell 20 regular 500s to break even. The ratio of sales in the U.S. is not 20 to 1 in favor of ICE, so Fiat is still apparently losing a boatload of money on the 500e.

But on the other hand, the "benefit" of the 500e is compliance with the mandated minimum ZEV sales, which could be just as pricey (if not more).
