Nissan No Charge to Charge & BMW ChargeNow DC Fast Comparison - mid-January 2016

Every several months Nissan expands its "No Charge to Charge" program in the U.S., which enables new LEAF owners to charge from participating public networks for free for two years (check charging map on the bottom).

The latest three additions to the program are:

  • New York
  • Philadelphia
  • Santa Barbara
"No Charge to Charge" includes both Level 2 AC charging and DC fast charging (CHAdeMO) in a total of 26 local markets.

With the addition of several new markets, Nissan's program is now covering nearly an identical area to the similar BMW ChargeNow DC Fast program for BMW i3 fast charging (see comparison on the right). This is not strange as NRG EVgo is the main partner in both projects and BMW-Nissan have a growing partnership.

"Nissan's "No Charge to Charge" promotion has officially arrived in three more markets – New York, Philadelphia and Santa Barbara – providing new Nissan LEAF buyers two years of complimentary public charging with the purchase of the all-electric car from LEAF-certified dealers in each market.

With more than 200,000 global sales and more than 89,000 in the U.S., Nissan LEAF is the world's best-selling electric car. The 2016 Nissan LEAF has a starting price of $26,700* after the federal tax credit of $7,500 for the SV model and $29,290* for LEAF SL after the federal tax credit. Both the SV and SL models boast an EPA-rated range of 107 miles on a single charge. Nissan LEAF S models continue to be equipped with a 24 kWh battery with an EPA-estimated range of 84** miles. Starting price for 2016 Nissan LEAF S grade remains $21,510* after the federal tax incentive."
