"The HCS-40 JuiceNet Edition is available immediately for pre-order from eMotorWerks’ website and will start shipping in October of 2015."

What's the HCS-40 JuiceNet Edition, you ask?  Well, it combines ClipperCreek's highly popular HCS-40 EVSE with eMotorWerks' JuiceBox controls.

More specifically, eMotorWerks fits the HCS-40 with its JuiceNet controls, which add "adds real-time control, monitoring, and automated smart-grid optimization,' as well as Wi-Fi functionality, to "select ClipperCreek charging stations."

Essentially, the HCS-40 JuiceNet Edition becomes a direct competitor to ChargePoint Home.

Availability?  The HCS-40 JuiceNet Edition is "available immediately for pre-order from eMotorWerks’ website and will start shipping in October of 2015." Beta units are being tested right now.

So, what's the price?

In a effort to make the HCS-40 JuiceNet Edition as competitive as possible, pricing undercuts ChargePoint Home units by a substantial amount. The HCS-40 JuiceNet is priced at $649 for both the plug-in hardwired versions, which means that it's up to $100 less than a comparable ChargePoint Home system.

The standard ClipperCreek HCS-40 (without JuiceNet functionality) is a 32-amp unit that's priced from $565 with a 25-foot cord as standard.

A 32-amp ChargePoint Home with a 25-foot cord costs $699 to $749 (hardwire version is $699, plug-in version is $749).  So, the ClipperCreek HCS-40 JuiceNet plug-in version at $649 is a full $100 less than the comparable ChargePoint Home unit.

As for retrofits for current owners of ClipperCreek HCS-40 EVSEs (or possibly even other ClipperCreek units) we're told that, while technically possible, timing and pricing have not yet been set.

SAN CARLOS, Calif., October 1, 2015 -- eMotorWerks has chosen ClipperCreek’s popular, durable, and NRTL listed HCS product line to integrate with its innovative JuiceNet™ platform for Smart-Grid EV Charging. eMotorWerks is a leading provider of intelligent and connected smart-grid charging solutions for electric vehicles (EV) and ClipperCreek is a leading manufacturer of commercial and residential EV charging stations in North America.

eMotorWerks’ JuiceNet turns traditional EV charging stations (EVSEs) into connected, smart-grid EV charging appliances which are controlled via a cloud-based, self-learning software platform. Initially, eMotorWerks will integrate JuiceNet capabilities into the flagship ClipperCreek products HCS-40 and HCS-40P. JuiceNet communication, revenue-grade telemetry, and control hardware, combined with a cloud software layer and smartphone / web front-ends, will provide greater control and convenience to customers. JuiceNet-enabled HCS stations will allow anytime-anyplace control via a mobile app, fast charging, and reductions in both greenhouse gas emissions and electricity costs based on user-defined charging preferences. The HCS-40 JuiceNet Edition is available immediately for pre-order from eMotorWerks’ website and will start shipping in October of 2015.

Adding to the existing network of over 5,000 JuiceBoxTM stations, this new expansion is an important step for the power industry, which faces increasing challenges in balancing local and regional grid loads and generation assets. JuiceNet-managed Distributed Energy Resources (DER) not only help future-proof our grids for growing intermittent renewable generation and the inevitable mass adoption of electric vehicles, but also do so without requiring utilities and power operators to invest in new grid operations, storage, or demand response infrastructure.

About eMotorWerks eMotorWerks is revolutionizing the EV charging market with its JuiceNet-enabled smart grid EV charging solutions. JuiceNet maximizes charging efficiency & speed while providing EV owners intuitive control and visibility. JuiceNet is also fully smart grid enabled. By shifting when and how much electricity JuiceNet-enabled stations draw from the grid, eMotorWerks helps utilities and grid operators reduce electricity costs, ease grid congestion, absorb excess solar and wind power, and provide rapid response to unforeseen grid events.
