A fortunate encounter with an original EV guy, Dave Erb at UNC Asheville.
Here's my day of "rest"...
Before starting the journey to complete the Blue Ridge Parkway, I met up with Dave Erb at UNC Asheville for lunch. Dave is a longtime EV guy who has been to NEDRA races (National Electric Drag Racing Assoc). The last section of the Blue Ridge Parkway goes about 100 miles past Asheville to Cherokee, NC where there is a solar powered charging station at the visitor's center.
Within the first 14 miles of today's ride I passed 1,000 miles for this journey!!! I rode 270 miles, 43 miles, 350 miles, 323 miles during the first few days, with the 43 mile day being a rest day.
This portion of the parkway goes through Pisgah National forest and once you get past the tourists on Pisgah Mountain it is an absolute dream to ride! There are dozens of breathtaking views and tight corners to dive into! The many tunnels make for an exciting ride since it was so bright outside and there are no lights in the tunnels. That means there isn't any time for eyes to adjust, but fortunately they are meticulously maintained.

I had read on Plugshare that only one of the chargers works, so I was hoping that there weren't any cars charging. Well, of course there was a car charging as I pulled up! D'oh!
The car was a Chevy Volt, which means it also has a gas engine so I wouldn't have stranded it if I unplugged the car. Also, I have a Volt and know that a blinking light on the dash means it has finished charging. The light on the dash was blinking!
All of that is a moot point because both chargers worked! So I didn't have to worry after all and I got a full charge with no hassle.
Rode back to Asheville on the parkway, enjoying it even more because there were almost no cars on it at that time of day.
My friend, who was sedated for surgery earlier, was up and social again. As a result of her experience she recommends waiting until the anesthesia wears off BEFORE painting your toes...
Had a lovely dinner, enjoyed some moonshine Ginepy and Grappe straight from Italy and hit the sack, excited to head down to Charleston, SC where the Ride the Future Tour kicked off two years ago.
