2016 Volkswagen e-Golf

Volkswagen didn't have a great year in regards to car sales in the U.S. in 2015 - in a lot of ways.

Total volume went down by nearly 5% and there are still DieselGate consequences to deal with.

We don't know what is hidden around the bend, but we do know e-Golf sales are improving.

In the last few months, sales of e-Golf exceeded 10% of Golf-family, which means that 1 in 10 Golfs sold were all-electric. December brought a record of 609 sales.

Given that the e-Golf is getting a 30% range bump expected in the 2nd half of this year (to around 105 miles EPA), it is hard to see sales moving anywhere but up

On the broader picture, e-Golf accounts for about 2% of all Volkswagen brand sales - average for the year was 1.2%.

Main competitors for the e-Golf are the Nissan LEAF (24 kWh/30 kWh), BMW i3, Focus Electric and the Chevy Spark EV.
