Moving onto the Long Beach ePrix race (Spoiler Alert)
Nelson Piquet Jr. captured his first Formula E victory. Piquet finished ahead of Jean Eric-Vegne (Second) and Lucas di Grassi (Third). Sebastien Buemi finished fourth.
Bruno Senna finished in fifth, while Jerome D’Ambrosio finished sixth.
As Electric Autosport states:
A lightning start from Piquet JR allowed the Brazilian to leap from third place into first, as many cars cut the chicane at Turns 1 and 2 in order to avoid any potential mayhem.
Nico Prost entered Round 6 as championship leader and had hoped to build on his points advantage, but he endured a miserable race and dropped to third after a slow getaway.
The safety car was then called into action on lap four when the ever popular Scott Speed crashed out, slamming into the barriers on the exit of the chicane at Turn 2.
Following four laps behind the safety car as Speed’s car was removed from the circuit, racing resumed as Piquet looked to break away just as he had in the opening laps.
And Piquet never looked back.
