Renault Nissan Strengthen Alliance - Will Converge on EV Powertrain Development
The Renault-Nissan Alliance, under the leadership of Carlos Ghosn, is the number one automotive group in terms of all-electric car sales.
According to the summary for year 2014, The Alliance sold 8,470,610 cars, including 82,602 electric vehicles. A quick conversion give us a number of almost 1% being BEVs, with five years to go to hit the original goal of 10%.
Sales of BEVs for The Alliance went up 24% last year, while market share hit 56% globally out of all BEVs sold.
Nissan LEAF, with 61,507 sales worldwide, is way ahead of the 17,813 sales of Renault's EVs, although Renault sells mostly in Europe.
The total number of electric cars sold by the Renault-Nissan Alliance since December 2010 through the end of 2014 is 217,365.
"The Alliance has sold a cumulative 217,365 electric vehicles worldwide since December 2010, when Nissan LEAF – the first mass-marketed Alliance EV - went on sale. The top markets for Nissan LEAF are the United States with 72,322 vehicles sold since its launch, Japan with 48,641 sales and Europe with 33,481 sales. Meanwhile, Renault has sold a cumulative 56,499 electric vehicles worldwide since its first EV, the Kangoo Z.E., went on sale in October 2011.
The Alliance sells about one out of two electric vehicles worldwide, including Twizy, Renault's two-seater urban commuter vehicle and the Nissan e-NV200 van on sale in Europe and Japan since 2014."
