BMW doesn't make a lot of mid-engine cars.  In fact you have to go back almost 40 years to find a example of one; that is besides the all-new BMW i8.

The M1, which debuted in 1978...and if you held onto one since then, could be worth a lot of money today (north of $500,000).

So does it make any sense to have a track day comparison between the plug-in supercar of today and the superstar of the late 70s?

Not really, but its a fun look at both cars nonetheless.
