Mini Energy Storage System in the Bordeaux 6-bootle wooden crate
Christophe Hubert, who is doing a swell job at the My E-Life Now ! blog on electric vehicles, energy storage system, and who personally owns a Nissan LEAF and BMW C evolution scooter, recently presented his latest project - the 1.5 kWh Mini Energy Storage System.
Hubert gave InsideEVs permission to present his project.
Its called mini because it is much smaller than his previous one (currently in use too) - 5 kWh combined with solar array.
The main goal for the second ESS is to improve results in the winter when the solar array produces less energy.
Mini ESS' task will be to store the energy at night for half the price for 8 hours under EDF tariff and release it during the day, supporting the larger ESS and solar.
The Mini version consists of three AESC / Nissan LEAF battery modules brought to France from the US, which nominally should store some 1.5 kWh of energy. There is also a 250W Grid Tie Inverter and a 10A 29.2V - LiFePO4 charger, which after bottom balancing is doing the job just fine.
As it turns out, France is already well prepared for the advent of the ESS era and is producing enclosures for Nissan LEAF battery modules in volume. By buying a wooden crate now, you can get a 6 botle Bordeaux wine promotion inside. Drink the wine after completing the ESS build.

According to Christophe, the new ESS works and together with larger one to try to keep net usage close to 0.
